Our Design Philosophy
SA Partnership’s design is intentionally subtle – choosing to leave only a light touch allows each project to take shape according to its unique context. This is achieved through the use of local materials, the blending of an addition to harmonize with an existing campus, or even the use of design and material to match those of a specific time period in history. Each project takes on its own identity – whether it’s the abandoned incinerator building turned coffee shop on the St. Mary’s campus, the construction of hill country office buildings incorporating Sisterdale Limestone, or the addition of an inner-city athletic complex to match the existing church campus.
Of course, the context of some projects commands the use of wildly creative architecture, at which time SA Partnership consistently creates unique and innovative designs. Stand out projects have been recognized by AIA San Antonio, The San Antonio Conservation Society, and featured in numerous publications locally and nationally.
Green Building
In
an effort to minimize the immense impact the built world has on
the environment both natural and urban, SA Partnership joined The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 2004. The USGBC’s LEED Rating System has emerged as the standard for green building in the United States, and presents a value to building owners in reducing the environmental impact as well as the cost of owning and maintaining a building in the long term.
SA Partnership is currently working toward LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation for every design professional of the Firm. In this way SA Partnership will play a role in the growing field of Green Design and promote strategies for sustainable site development, smarter water consumption, better energy efficiency, green materials selection, and higher indoor environmental quality.
SA Partnership has a proven commitment to the environment - in addition to participating in a number of recycling programs within the office, the current office space takes the form of an adaptive reuse project in an old World War II Quonset hut building. By utilizing a previously existing structure near downtown San Antonio, SA Partnership is reducing urban sprawl and the consumption of raw materials used for new construction. In addition, by removing concrete and adding landscaping, SA Partnership has also reduced the amount of impervious cover.
